what? I think it is. Visual Field of View vs' Audio Field of View...

Mr. Lynch gave us his version of Visual Field of View, a phone does not equal a cinema.

Audio Field of View...

Cinema:

Cassettes were analogue, the millions of magnetised dipoles encased on a substrate(tape) that were charged with the analogous audio impression over time(tape speed) coupled with BIAS(pseudo compression, because you will never get the dynamic range of the human ear in/on a substrate to match what we hear in real life), was kind of acceptable. Degradation of dipoles was the trade off(high frequency loss) in exchange for these acceptable "bandwidth" or "fat warm sounds" we know and love today from tapes. So cassettes gave my ears a wider field of view in terms of overall frequencies to decipher at any given point, I had many places in the aural spectrum(screen) on which to focus.

Mobile phone:

As opposed to MP3's where the only reason it became popular over WAV files etc. is because of so called efficiency, being the encoding process, ditched audio frequencies "deemed" by Kane Kramer to be inaudible to the human ear in favour of smaller files, allowing better storage and "Give me convenience or give me fucking death" of audio. Even high bit rate MP3's make a mash of any drum kit's cymbals to my ears, which destroy the experience.

By the way, why did you refer to cassettes over vinyl for a start??

My first digital experience on CD was Godflesh's Slavestate in 1993. I went and bought it on tape a week later because it sounded better.

The future's fucked. Circa 73.

well i dont think it is totally analogous. if you feel cheated by mp3s (high bitrate ones too?) do/did you refuse to listen to cassettes? are you old enough to even remember cassettes?

same reason I refuse to listen to MP3's... I feel so cheated after, like there is something missing, like a few thousand frequencies for a start...

Death be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
